Grou
GROU, THE WATER SPORTS VILLAGE
Grou is one of Friesland's most well-known water sports villages. The village on the Pikmar lake is known as the starting point of the annual Skûtsjesilen competition. The cosy centre of Grou has a shopping centre with many different shops, a wide choice of restaurants and many attractions. One of these is the beautiful Sint Piterkerk (St. Peter's Church). The 12th century gable roof tower stands at the heart of the village. The former Town Hall on the Stationsweg, designed by the architect Kropholler, is also a listed national monument. If you would like to know more about the many national monuments in Grou and other nearby attractions, then the “Hert fan Fryslân” (Heart of Friesland) Museum is the place to be. The Grou tourist information office is also located here.
On the road from Earnewâld to Grou, you will also find the very special Mineralogical Museum.
Grou's central location makes it ideal for water sports enthusiasts. It is close to De Alde Feanen National Park, with its many waterways, and it is also easy to reach Earnewâld, Sneek and Terherne (Kameleondorp theme park) by water. On the way you will pass the cosy village of Jirnsum.
