BOATING ROUTES
The very best way to explore De Alde Feanen National Park is by boat. Bog pools, narrow waterways, little lakes and broad canals are all connected in one huge boating area. A common reaction of tourists boating for the first time in De Alde Feanen is: “I can't believe this exists in the Netherlands!” You can imagine you're in a huge, green wetland paradise that almost seems foreign. You will find peace, quiet and space in a vary diverse landscape. Boating for the first time in De Alde Feanen National Park can be quite difficult, as the area is an enormous maze of waterways and lakes. That's why we've set out a number of routes in the boating app, so that you are assured of finding the nicest spots in the area! If you want to embark on a longer trip, you can take the recently reopened Polderhoofd canal to Nij Beets.
If you would like to rent a boat, please check the range on offer at: http://www.earnewald.nl/nl/zien-doen/bootverhuur
You can also follow a route through De Alde Feanen with a commentary from Freek Vonk. Freek was extremely enthusiastic about the peace and quiet and the fantastic nature of this area, and will take you on a tour through this unique nature area via a podcast. Along the way you will hear about kingfishers, otters, Eurasian bitterns, cobitidae and sea eagles. For more information, a map and explanation, you can visit De Alde Feanen National Park visitor centre or download the podcast from: http://podcast.ppmp.nl/np-aldefeanen/index.html De audiotour met Freek Vonk is ook als route in de vaarrapp opgenomen.
If you prefer to let someone else take the helm, you can book a cruise with Rondvaardij Princenhof or a boating excursion led by an experienced skipper/guide on the solar boat, “De Blaustirns”. You can find all necessary information at De Alde Feanen National Park visitor centre.
